After more than two years of planning and consultation, MMBC submitted a Packaging and Printed Paper Stewardship Plan, which the BC Ministry of Environment approved in April 2013. In May 2014, the amendments to the Regulation came into effect and MMBC’s collection system began operations.
Collectors: local governments, private companies and non-profit organizations that collect packaging and printed paper from residents
Primary Processors: companies that provide post-collection services including consolidation, transfer, processing and marketing of packaging and printed paper. In February 2014, MMBC selected Green by Nature EPR (GBN) as the post-collection processor for its packaging and printed paper recycling program. GBN, and a network of over 45 sub-contractors, receive, consolidate, transfer, sort and prepare packaging and printed paper for shipment to material remanufacturers, and safe disposal of residual materials.
